Proofreading & editing in German, English, French & Italian

You already have a finished translation whose quality you would like us to check? Or you have a text (without a corresponding source text) and want to have it checked for style, grammar, spelling, punctuation before going to press or other publication?

We will equally be happy to provide this service for you after an appropriate estimate of the work involved (on an hourly basis). If, after a first review, we come to the conclusion that a new translation would be more cost-effective due to the poor quality of the translation, or that a revision of the text exceeds our competences because a major revision of the content is required, we will inform you accordingly. Give us a call to discuss the respective options!

Proofreading and editing primarily in the following languages:

  • German
  • English
  • French
  • Italian
  • Other languages on request

Editing & proofreading

Unlike proofreading, editing involves a stylistic and linguistic assessment and revision of the text.

Therefore, editing is not just about correcting mistakes, but also about improving the language of a text. The decisive factor is general comprehensibility for readers. Convoluted sentences that are difficult to grasp and passages that are too colloquial will be rephrased. Excessive repetitions of words will be eliminated and missing contexts established. If necessary, additions will be made, or the text passages concerned will be arranged in a different order.

During proofreading, unlike editing, no linguistic/stylistic changes are made; only the following points will be checked and corrected:

  • Spelling
  • Grammar
  • Punctuation
  • Uniform spelling
  • Correct hyphenation
  • Consistency of the terminology used
  • Typography: formatting & layout (quotation marks, font size, font, indents, etc.)

Häufig gestellte Fragen

What is the difference between proofreading & editing?

Editing covers a wider range of tasks than proofreading. While proofreading is dedicated exclusively to correcting mistakes in the text (grammar, spelling, punctuation, hyphenation...), editing also includes suggestions for stylistic and – if agreed with the client – even content-related improvements.

Please note: Before commissioning any proofreading or editing service, a clear definition of what the respective proofreading or editing service comprises or includes will be required. As a matter of principle, we will not accept any major content editing work.
